Brimlight

Privacy

Last updated 22 October 2026

The short version. Brimlight the app has no account, no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends anything to me unless you email me. What it shows you stays on your Mac, apart from the few services listed below. This website only collects your email if you join the waitlist, and it is used to send you one email when Brimlight is out.

Who is responsible

Brimlight is made by Gjin Prelvukaj, an independent developer in Kosovo ("I", "me"). I am the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach me at [email protected].

This website

The waitlist

If you join the waitlist, the email address you type is sent to Kit (kit.com, United States), the service that keeps the list for me. Kit also receives the technical details any web request carries (IP address, browser) and the time you joined. If Kit asks for a quick check that you're human, that happens on Kit's own page.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Vercel (Vercel Inc., United States). Like any web host, Vercel keeps short-lived technical logs of requests (IP address, browser, time) to run and protect the service. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in keeping the site running and safe. The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party scripts. It doesn't track you across sites, so Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals change nothing here.

The app

Brimlight runs on your Mac. It has no Brimlight account and no server of mine behind it. It does not collect analytics, does not track you, and does not send me anything unless you choose to email me a crash report.

What it reads on your Mac

To show things in the notch, Brimlight reads, on your Mac only: your calendar events, what is playing and how loud it is (nothing is recorded), your Claude Code and Codex sessions (names, times and token counts from their local logs), the Claude plan limits the Claude app saves on your Mac, the permission requests and questions Claude Code sends it, notification banners, your clipboard text if you turn clipboard history on (off by default), files you drop on the shelf, your Focus status, whether your camera or microphone is in use, your camera only while you have the mirror on (shown, never recorded), battery, system stats and downloads in progress. macOS asks your permission for most of these. None of it leaves your Mac through Brimlight, except for the services listed below.

What it keeps on your Mac

Services it talks to, straight from your Mac

These connections go directly from your Mac to each service, which also sees your IP address. I never see them.

ServiceWhenWhat is sent
Open-Meteo (weather)If you use weatherThe city name you search for, and that place's coordinates rounded to about 1 km. Brimlight does not use your device's location.
LRCLIB (lyrics)Only if you turn lyrics on (off by default) and open themThe song's title, artist, album and length.
Anthropic (Claude)NeverNothing. Brimlight reads your Claude plan limits only from files the Claude app and Claude Code keep on your Mac. It does not sign in to Claude, does not read your Claude sign-in, and does not contact Anthropic.
GitHub (updates)Automatically about once a day, unless you turn off automatic update checks in Settings; and whenever you choose Check for UpdatesA request for the update feed and, if you update, the download.
Your Mail app (crash reports)Only if you choose to send oneAn email to me with the crash report attached, opened in your Mail app so you can read it first. A report holds technical details (Mac model, macOS version, what Brimlight was doing); its file paths may include your Mac's user name.

Each of these services handles that data under its own privacy policy. Meeting links you click open in your own browser.

Emails you send me

If you email me (support, a crash report, a privacy request), your message is kept in my Gmail account (Google) for as long as needed to answer it and for up to two years after. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in answering you.

Buying Brimlight

When Brimlight goes on sale, payments are handled by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited and its affiliates), which acts as the seller (merchant of record). Paddle processes your payment details, address and tax information under its own privacy notice. I receive your name, email, country and what you bought, so I can send and support your licence key. Your licence key contains your email address. Legal basis: to provide what you bought, and to keep the records tax and accounting law requires, for as long as it requires.

Where your data goes

I am in Kosovo, so data you send me is handled there. Kit, Vercel and Google are in the United States, and Paddle in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. They protect transfers with the safeguards the law requires, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Email me if you'd like details.

Your rights

You can ask me to see, correct or delete your data, to stop or limit using it, to object to my use of it, or to give you a copy. Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. If you are in the EU, the UK or another country with similar laws, you have these rights under the GDPR or your local law; Kosovo's Law No. 06/L-082 on the Protection of Personal Data also applies. Email [email protected] and I will answer within one month. You can also complain to Kosovo's Information and Privacy Agency or to the data protection authority where you live. No decisions about you are made automatically.

Children

Brimlight and this website are not meant for children under 16, and I do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If a change affects how your waitlist email is used, I will tell you before it applies.
